The Ptaku

The most common feathered-folk throughout the Alliance, and all of Atlazan, are the ptaku.  Their features are as varied as the gods they worship, the foods they eat, and their ways of life.  It is not uncommon for the colorful people to adapt the ways of other feathered-folk that live amongst or near them.

Free And Carefree
Ptaku are a people born without the racial imposition of most other races.  The magari are born to nature and a life of hardship and struggle.  The kala’kai yearn for the sea and if sitting in one place too long their bones begin to ache from stagnation.  A ptak may be born to noble, religious parents but take up the life of a swordsmith under the guidance of one of the corvids.
It is this freedom to choose their own way that make the ptaku special.  They have a singular ability to adapt to situations and change their path at a moment's notice.  Often they care little for what others may think of them.  Sometimes this makes them seem cold or aloof, but more likely such ptaku are simply given to being happy with themselves.

The Good Of All
Despite the carefree attitude of the ptaku, it is not to say they are selfish or interested in only their own goals.  Quite the contrary.  These feathered-folk feel that the freedom of choice is available to all, or should be.  Other feathered-folk appear to be to cold and stringent in their ways for many ptaku.  The scale-kin certainly seem even more tyrannical than they are.  It is said that only a ptak understands a ptak.
Nothing makes this more evident than the defense they will come to for others, especially another ptak.  Community is incredibly important to the ptaku and everyone has a role.  In the ptaku mind that role is chosen by the individual and never should anyone degrade another for that choice.  It can be difficult at times as a self-made smith may not be very good, and support comes on morals and words alone.  These are not the things that can support a family.

The Gods Deserve Witness
Ptaku are likely to be found offering silent prayer to one or more gods when something happens.  It may be surprising or not, good or bad, but the gods must be recognized.  Religion within a society of ptaku is not directed towards any one edict or god.  Instead a ptak will recognize that all gods have their hands in the lives of mortals throughout everyday life.
